Measure from the finished floor down to the ground below. This is what decides your glass.

2. Do you want a top rail?
The rail in the picture is a slotted aluminium cap that sits over the top edge of the glass. It gives you something to hold, ties the panels together and finishes the run. Optional — the glass stands on its own without it.
Measure each run outside-to-outside (the full length of the edge you want the balustrade to cover), in your chosen unit, and the calculator works out your glass, spigots and fittings. There are no posts in this system: each toughened glass panel stands on a pair of floor-fixed spigots, with a narrow joint between panels. Under a 600 mm drop, panels are 10 mm toughened glass up to 1100 mm wide and 1024 mm high. At 600 mm or more, panels are 17.5 mm laminated glass up to 1000 mm wide and 1087 mm high, with the spigots 150 mm in from each panel edge so they are never more than 700 mm apart. We fit your runs to stock pane sizes wherever they will go, so most orders are dispatched in 3–10 working days; anything that cannot be made from stock is cut to size, charged by the linear metre and rounded up to the next whole metre, and before anything is cut we send you CAD drawings to confirm every measurement and pane size. Made-to-order glass takes 3–4 weeks and is non-returnable unless faulty. Stair runs are always cut to size, because a raked panel is shaped to the pitch of your particular flight. Spigots must be bolted into a solid structural base — concrete, a steel frame or a retaining wall, not paving laid on sand. Fixing bolts are not included, as the right anchor depends on what you are fixing into. One base plate cover is included per spigot.

Description
Our black spigot glass balustrade kit holds clear glass on square Duplex 2205 stainless steel spigots, with no posts or base channel breaking up the view. The black powder-coated finish is applied over the same Duplex 2205 steel as our satin kit, and suits modern and dark-framed homes.
Glass follows the drop
- Drop under 600mm: 10mm clear toughened glass, 1024mm high, in panels up to 1100mm wide.
- Drop of 600mm or more: 17.5mm clear toughened laminated glass, 1087mm high, in panels up to 1000mm wide. Each panel sits on two spigots fixed 150mm in from its edges, so spigots are never more than 700mm apart. At this drop the system is designed in line with BS 6180:2011 for homes.
Top rail
The 30 × 28mm top rail is optional on level runs. If any part of your balustrade runs up stairs, the rail is added along the whole run and mitre-cut where it changes pitch. Glass stiffeners for corners, joints and walls are available on request.

Each spigot bolts through its oval base plate into a solid structural base, with a cover over the fixings. Fixing bolts are not supplied, because the right anchor depends on what you are fixing into.
